"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
2 Corinthians 5:17
Read The Bible
The Bible is how God speaks to you personally.
Just as any relationship grows through communication, your relationship with God grows as you read His Word. Start with the Gospel of John, then Romans, then work through the New Testament.
Don't worry if you don't understand everything immediately. Even mature Christians are still learning. The key is to start reading regularly - even just 10 minutes a day will transform your life.
Practical tip: Use a modern translation like the NLT or ESV, and consider using a Bible app that gives you daily reading plans.

Talk To God
Prayer is simply talking to God as your loving Father.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." — Philippians 4:6
You don't need special words or formal language. God wants to hear about your concerns, your gratitude, your questions, and your struggles. He's interested in every detail of your life.
Start by thanking Him for saving you, then talk to Him about whatever is on your mind. Ask Him to help you grow, to give you strength to follow Him, and to help you understand His Word, the Bible.
A simple pattern to follow: Thank God for something, confess any sin, ask for what you need, and pray for others.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Philippians 4:6
Find A Church
You weren't meant to follow Jesus alone.
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together..." — Hebrews 10:24-25
God designed Christians to grow together in local churches. Look for a church that teaches the Bible clearly and applies it to daily life, believes the gospel message you've responded to, and has friendly people who will welcome and help you grow.
Don't expect perfection - churches are full of people like you who are being transformed by God's grace. The goal is to find a place where you can learn, grow, and contribute.
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together..."
Hebrews 10:24-25
Tell Someone
Your faith grows stronger when you share it.
"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession..." — 1 Timothy 6:12
Find a Christian friend, family member, or church leader and tell them about your decision to follow Jesus. They'll be thrilled to hear your news and can help you take next steps.
Don't worry if some people don't understand or even oppose your new faith. Jesus warned that this would happen. Stay loving but firm in what you believe.
Sharing is not about having all the answers, but simply sharing your personal experience of God's love and grace in your life.
"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession..."
1 Timothy 6:12
Live Differently
Your new life in Christ will show itself in practical ways.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." — Micah 6:8
You don't have to clean up your life to become a Christian - Jesus accepts you as you are. But once you're a Christian, He begins transforming you from the inside out.
This means turning away from sin (confessing sin and asking God for help to change), growing in love (caring for others), and sharing your faith openly.
It's a daily walk. Be patient with yourself - growth takes time, and God's grace is always sufficient to catch you when you stumble.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
Micah 6:8
Be Baptised
Jesus commanded all His followers to be baptised in water.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." — Matthew 28:19
Baptism is a simple but powerful act of obedience that publicly declares your faith in Jesus. When you're baptised, you're immersed in water and brought back up again, symbolising that your old life has died with Christ and you've been raised to new life with Him.
Why is baptism important? Jesus Himself was baptised and commanded His disciples to baptise new believers. It's not what saves you - only faith in Jesus does that - but it's the first step of obedience Jesus asks of you.
What should you do? Speak to the leaders at a local church about being baptised. They'll explain their process and help you prepare for this significant and joyful step.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
Matthew 28:19
Keep Learning & Growing
Following Jesus is a lifelong journey of discovery.
"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!" — 2 Peter 3:18
As a new Christian, you have a lot to learn, but don't feel overwhelmed. Growth is a gradual process that happens over a lifetime. Just focus on taking one step at a time, keeping your eyes on Jesus.
Set aside a regular time each day to read the Bible and pray. This is the foundation of your spiritual growth. Make church attendance and fellowship a priority, and look for opportunities to serve others.
Deepen your faith with these classic books: "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, "The Pursuit of Holiness" by Jerry Bridges, "Desiring God" by John Piper, or "Basic Christianity" by John Stott.
"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever!"
2 Peter 3:18
Remember God's Promises
Your relationship with God is secure because it's based on Jesus' finished work.
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." — Romans 8:38-39
There will be times when you doubt, struggle with sin, or feel distant from God. In those moments, do not rely on your feelings. Feelings change, but God’s truth and His promises never change.
When you stumble, remember that God's grace is always there to catch you and restore you. His love for you is unconditional and everlasting. You are His child, and nothing can change that.
Keep these promises close:
Identity and New Life
- 2 Corinthians 5:17: Anyone in Christ is a new creation. Old things pass away, and everything becomes new.
- Romans 8:1: There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Comfort and Presence

- Hebrews 13:5: God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
- Romans 8:38-39: Nothing can ever separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
Guidance and Hope
- Jeremiah 29:11: God knows the plans he has for you, plans for good and a future filled with hope.
- Psalm 119:105: God's word is a lamp to guide your feet and a light for your path.
- Philippians 1:6: The one who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.
Complete Forgiveness
- 1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us.
- Psalm 103:12: As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
- Micah 7:19: God will show compassion and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.
Lasting Peace
- Philippians 4:6-7: Do not worry, but pray. God’s peace, which surpasses understanding, will guard your heart and mind.
- Isaiah 26:3: God will keep you in perfect peace if your mind is stayed on him and you trust him.
- John 14:27: Jesus leaves you with peace. It is his own peace, not the kind the world gives.
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:38-39
